Tribe hosts first career fair for members only

New fun and excitement came to the Puyallup Tribe Aug. 24 at its first annual career fair. More than 100 tribal members of all ages attended with enthusiasm and a williness to research new paths for career options. As the tribal membership has grown to roughly 3,800 people and since a majority of the members live in the Puget Sound region, the needs of the membership are growing. The Puyallup Tribe and all its entities were there to give information to the membership and to show what they had to offer as far as careers were concerned.   Read more...


Commemoration set to honor veterans of the Fishing Wars

On Sept. 9 at the Emerald Queen Casino event tent, a commemoration will be held to mark the 40th anniversary of a major turning point in the Puyallup Tribe’s fight to retain its treaty rights to fish the waters of their homeland. It was on this date in 1970 when police armed with tear gas, billy-clubs and rifles raided the Tribe’s encampment on the Puyallup River at the height of the Fishing Wars. Four decades later, a committee of Tribal members has put together an event to honor those who fought the good fight and ultimately led their Tribe to victories in the Fishing Wars. Read more...
