Warriors turn on the heat too little, too late

After a disappointing 61-49 loss Jan. 12 to a dominating Bear Creek Grizzlies (20-1, 11-0), the Chief Leschi Warriors (13-6, 9-2), regrouped and found their stride producing a nine-game winning streak. Those wins catapulted the Warriors to the Feb. 13 Sea-Tac 2B League championship, hosted by Chief Leschi High School. Read more...

New drums blessed

On Jan. 14 Chief Leschi School had the honor of having Isadore Tom (Doby) bless the students’ and staff drums. Throughout the year, staff and students have the opportunity to make drums and learn the Native songs. Before the drums are used, they need to be blessed. The drums represent a connection with the Creator and has a spirit of its own. Read more...

Warrior wrestler currently ranked 6th in state

Cheyenne Kudrin-Mello is wrestling in only his second year of the sport. Last year he was a state participant wrestling at 103 pounds. His wrestling career took off to a rocky start, losing his first five matches. He came on strong at the end of last year to take second at districts and third at the regional tournament to qualify for state. He caught the wrestling bug, and he participated in a couple of freestyle wrestling tournaments over the summer. Read more...


Chief Leschi rises up again

The Chief Leschi Warriors (6-5, 2-1) started off the season with an impressive winning streak, taking their first four games by a hefty average of 36.5 points. However, the Warriors hit an unfortunate skid, losing two games in a row to Crosspoint and Bear Creek. Read more...


December Pow-wow

Chief Leschi Schools was host to a well-attended Pow-wow that brought together vendors, dancers, singers, community members and one very important guest Dec. 19. Vendors lined the hallways and cafeteria where people were free to peruse buying gifts for Christmas. The kitchen crew was kept very busy as people sought out Indian tacos and fry bread. Eight drums kept the dancers moving as the Pow-wow MC’d by Arnold Littlehead carried on in the Four Seasons gymnasium. Finally the guest of honor Santa Claus arrived and kids of all ages lined up to greet him. Read more...
