The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission Folk and Traditional Arts in the Parks Program and the Skokomish Tribal Nation Cultural Resources Department invites the public to “Tuwaduq Days at t3bad’ as” (too-WAH-dook days at t’-BAH-dahs), at Potlatch State Park.
The free event runs from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 and includes demonstrations of native arts and crafts, canoe paddling, performances of singing and drumming, field games and a special appearance of the tribe’s own Twana Dancers. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
Potlatch State Park is on the Great Bend of the Hood Canal and U.S. Highway 101 between Shelton and Hoodsport. The park is the site of the Twana (ancestral Skokomish) village of t3bad’ as, and for that reason it was recently placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Tuwaduq Days at t3bad’ as is part of a broader series of events celebrating Washington’s diverse cultures. The Folk and Traditional Arts in the Parks Program is a partnership between the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Washington State Arts Commission. Additional funding support is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Washington State Parks Foundation.
The festival is accessible to persons with disabilities. If special accommodations are required in order to attend the event, call (360) 332-8221 or (360) 902-8526. Requests must be made in advance.
