Feast celebrates end of summer program

The Puyallup Tribe’s Grandview Learning Center recently held a feast Aug. 30 in celebration of the conclusion of the summer program, according to Peggy McCloud, director of the center, which has around 135 children, infant to 12 years old.

Peggy McCloud said the Summer Family Feast was a way to send the school-aged children back to school and celebrate the work they did over the summer. The children each received a book bag full of school supplies at the event.

The children themselves made giveaway items for attendees, and the grandparents who have children at the daycare were honored with a basket full of goodies including jam and peaches. Each of the classrooms at Grandview also made a new banner.

Guests at the event were greeted with the children singing and dancing, and then the feast of salmon, clams and other summertime favorites began.

The Summer Family Feast is an annual event, according to Peggy McCloud, who noted the center is planning similar events to celebrate each of the seasons.
