The Washington State mandated High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) will be given to all sophomores and selected juniors who have not previously passed the reading, writing and/or math tests during March and April.
The HSPE replaces the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). The HSPE includes reading, writing, mathematics and science tests. The new tests are designed with fewer questions and will require less time by students to complete testing. The HSPE is designed to measure the same academic skills as the WASL and the different test scores are comparable from one year to the next.
There are no testing make-up dates for the HSPE. Students must test on the designated days. If a student misses a testing session, the next opportunity to test is August 2010 or during the spring of next school year.
