The “Living Well with Chronic Conditions” class is a six week workshop that provides real-life tools for living a full, healthy life with a chronic health condition. Some of these health conditions may include; diabetes, arthritis, asthma and heart disease. The two-and-a-half hour weekly sessions are fun, interactive and are in a group format. Participants learn to improve their health one step at a time by setting goals and then breaking the goals into small steps, week by week. The workshop builds confidence around managing health, staying active and enjoying life.
PTHA is honored to have the Pierce County Aging and Long Term Care providing this workshop with highly trained facilitators. The topics covered through the six-week workshop may include:
- Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation.
- Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance.
- Appropriate use of medications.
- Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals.
- Nutrition, and many other useful subjects to help participants live more fully.
Several PTHA patients that completed the workshop last Fall said they had improved confidence in managing their chronic condition and that they were using new skills like positive thinking and relaxation as a way of dealing with their emotions. If you would like to take part in this program, a new class starts in mid February! For more information or to register for the class, please call Karol at (253) 593-0232 ext. 533.
